moving on up...

its about that time to head back to school. its such a bittersweet feeling. the fact that summer is really coming to an end is terrible. waking up to lazy afternoons of eating breakfast around 4pm are no more. now its back to the books.

R.I.P. Aaliyah | Jan 16, 1979 - Aug 25, 2001

A Trip Down Memory Lane

There are many things i could say about this album. How its been a diamond in the rough, labeled a classic by most, and how influential Pete Rock has been in shaping production and sampling within the industry... but i wont.

1994 was a tough year to shine in New York. Being the same year Illmatic, and Ready to Die dropped, its easy to see how many would over look this album. In their final project together, the duo, widely known for their 1992 hit T.R.O.Y., compiles a smooth array of jazzy / soulful melodies and lyrics that result in nothing short of a classic (containing some of their best work) & have many fans consistently bumping this album in rotation to this very day. Its definitely one of those albums you can sit back and listen to in its entirety.

If its not already in your iTunes, please do yourself a favor &...

Dos Equis x KAWS

The creative mind that is Brian Donnelly, or KAWS as you may know him, is teaming up with the Worlds Most Interesting Beer, Dos Equis to bring you all all new bottle design featuring the trademark "X X" for both the Lager and the Amber, available for a limited time beginning next month.

Wondering where you can get your hands on these bad boys? You'll have to make a trip south of the border to get them. These bottles will only be released on Mexico.
Unfortunate indeed.

Theophilus London - Life of a Lover

Its hard to put a label on Theophilus London. he definitely has a sound and style all his own. Influenced by a very synth pop oriented sound reminiscent of the 80's, the Brooklyn native has been traveling all over the place doing his thing expanding his fan base, fusing electro funk, afropop & hip hop to name a few genres. Fader magazine places him at the center of the borough's new urban pop movement, while others have dubbed him worst artist of 2010. regardless of what is said its up to you to make the final verdict.

here is my personal favorite song from the big homie. its called The Life of a Lover. Very Jazzy and mellow horn samples. Quiet and lazy. Great Music.

The Natives

Recently i purchased a comfortable and stylish alternative to Crocs, in the Native Footwear Jefferson model and they finally came in.

The Native shoes are each inspired by casual silhouettes, but made with the lightest and most comfortable material available. Its the best of both worlds.

I first seen these on a certain blog which i frequent very often and i was really interested in what these crazy looking shoes were about.

Honestly, they're great overall! They are very light weight, very comfortable (surprisingly! i was never into they hype about the type of material these shoes are made of, but they really are as comfortable as they say. its nuts!) as well as relatively inexpensive. check out the offical Native website here.

Wale's More About Nothing mixtape release at CommonWealth

I'd like to think of myself as an OG Wale fan. A lot of people will tell you they have been listening to dude since Paint A Picture, but thats far from the truth. I started fcukin with dude back in 06 when he came down to KDY for a basketball game and was kickin it with the people. Up until that point i had only heard few songs from him, but the down to earth character that he showed as an aspiring artist made want to check out more.... and indeed i did.

Fast forward a few years, a few mixtapes and a major label debut, Wale's back at it again with the highly anticipated mixtape More About Nothing which dropped last tuesday. To show a little love to his hometown fans the big homie Wale released this statement via twitter

Of course i was anxious to go for two reasons, first I had yet to download the mixtape since I had been at work since noon, which was the time of its release, and secondly i really was not trying to sit in my summer class for another 4 hours. So I made the responsible choice and went down to the shop, met up with @BigRikz @DreSoleFly @ohThinkTwice and ran into @bhem_7 @DrewReignSuPrme as well as a few others. it was def crowded with more people showing up than expected but the big homie Wale def showed everybody love giving out free shirts, posters, hard copies of the mixtape of course, and even a performance for those who weren't able to receive a copy of the mixtape. Check it out.

and of course....

Sample Visuals | Dee & Ricky | Kenzo Digital | "Super Happy Fun Time" Short

Dee & Ricky are increasingly putting their stamp on pop culture and have creatively linked up with Kenzo Digital for bonkers video entitled Dee & Ricky Super Happy Fun Time Show. It’s like a mix between Pee Wee Herman’s Playhouse Show and an Atari video game. Definitely be on the lookout for more from these innovative individuals.
